Data
27 datasets extracted from the research tables. Each is a tidy CSV with one row per observation. The full catalogue, with columns, units, sources, confidence and caveats, is in catalog.json .
Compiled November 2026 from public sources.
Data honesty: these are research notes compiled from public sources, not official NFL or JAFA data. Numbers are copied as the sources give them. Values that are unconfirmed, conflicting or seen only in a search snippet stay in the text and in the CSV note columns, and are left out of the charts. Missing years are missing, not zero.

Single compilation source (Wikipedia, using Nielsen data); not checked game by game against Nielsen. From the 2025 season Nielsen counts more out-of-home and streaming viewing (Big Data + Panel), so 2025-26 figures are not fully comparable with older years. Columns and units

Caveats
Football has been first in all 23 Gallup readings since 1972 (average 38% in season, 32% out of season); only some readings are listed here. Other polls ask different questions (favourite sport vs to watch vs most popular), so they are not mixed in.
